Ho Chi Minh

Day 1:

Ho Chi Minh Arrival (formerly known as Saigon)

Upon arriving at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport, you will be welcomed by one of our team members and brought to your hotel in a private car. As arrival times vary and international travel can be quite exhausting, we leave the remainder of the day open for you to do what you want.

Day 2:

Cu Chi Tunnel – Ho Chi Minh City Tour (B,L)

After having breakfast, we will begin the tour by visiting the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels. Here you will have the chance to experience what life was like for guerilla soldiers living and fighting underground during the war. Crawling through a 50-100 metre portion of over 200 kilometres of tunnel systems is truly an unforgettable experience. On the ride back to Ho Chi Minh City, we will visit local rice paper workshops with beautiful rice paddy fields illustrating the way.

After returning for lunch, we will begin our Ho Chi Minh City. Starting off at the Reunification Palace, visitors can explore one of the most historically important buildings in the entire city. We will then pay a visit to the poignant War Remnants Museum (formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes), a moving display speaking out on the futility of war. Nearby are some excellent examples of French Colonial architecture (Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office), and we’ll wrap up the day touring the iconic Ben Thanh Market After observing this vibrant commercial centre and exploring some of its famous street life, we will return back to the hotel.

Day 3:

Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be – Vinh Long – Can Tho (B,L)

Our exploration of the Mekong Delta region begins: a major rice producing area of Vietnam. Considered to be one of the world’s most fascinating rivers, the Mekong splits into nine major arteries, creating a vast network of rivers and waterways that fuel the life force of southwestern Vietnam. Between the thousands of ships that cruise through the waters and the everyday, local life thriving along the Mekong’s banks, the Delta region will be one of the most unique and memorable destinations on your Vietnam Tour.

Upon arrival from Ho Chi Minh City, you will take a boat trip out to the iconic Cai Be Floating Markets, where you’ll have the opportunity to visit local villages and meet the charming people of the Mekong Delta region. Your boat trip will continue on to An Binh Island, where you will have lunch with a local family. We will move on with the trip towards the city of Can Tho (the heart of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region), where you will check in to your hotel and have the evening to yourself.

Day 4:

Can Tho (Mekong Delta) – Ho Chi Minh City (B, L)

After having breakfast at the hotel, we will start the morning by cruising along the Mekong’s small, picturesque tributaries by rowboat. We will see the Cai Rang Market (the biggest market in Can Tho), soak up the beautiful scenery and witness the daily activities of the locals who live amongst the Mekong’s canals. After that, we will visit a local rice-husking mill, a rice noodle shop and even sample some local tropical fruits. In the afternoon we will drive back to Ho Chi Minh City where you will spend the night.

Day 5:

Ho Chi Minh City – Mui Ne (B)

After breakfast, you will be transferred from Ho Chi Minh City to the coastal town of Mui Ne. Arrive in Mui Ne in the afternoon, check in to your hotel and the remainder of the day is spent at your leisure.

Day 6:

Mui Ne Free Day (B)

Day 6 is entirely open for your enjoyment; relax on the beach, try out some local seafood or shop along Mui Ne’s vibrant main strip.

You are free to explore Nui Ne one final time in the morning, and around mid afternoon our driver will transfer you back to Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City – Flight to Hanoi (B)

Spend the morning exploring Saigon’s vibrant streets until our transport brings you to the airport for your flight north to Hanoi. Upon on arrival in the capital city, you will be picked up by one of our staff members, transferred and checked in to your new hotel. The rest of day is open for you to explore Hanoi.

Day 9:

Hanoi City Tour (B,L)

We begin our tour of Hanoi by visiting the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Here you can experience the architectural splendour and historical importance of Uncle Ho’s final resting place- a national treasure for all Vietnamese. Adjacent to the mausoleum is Ho Chi Minh’s former “House on Stilts,” where the leader spent a great deal of his free time. From here we visit the nearby One Pillar Pagoda, an 11th century temple built by King Ly Thai To. This pagoda is not only historically and religiously significant, but is also an important symbol for the people of Hanoi. Continuing on, we visit one of the city’s most iconic destinations: the Temple of Literature (Quoc Tu Giam). Vietnam’s first University, this 11th century establishment boasts perfectly manicured gardens and extremely well-preserved architecture, offering visitors some excellent insight into Vietnam’s rich past.

After a busy morning, we will enjoy lunch at a delicious local restaurant, followed by a tour of the bustling “Old Trading Quarter” of Hanoi. Our scenic tour ends with a visit to Lake Hoan Kiem’s Ngoc Son Temple and a live viewing of Hanoi’s world-famous Water Puppet Show (Mua Roi Nuoc). A traditional form of entertainment in Northern Vietnam, the roots of these memorable shows date as far back as the 10th century.

Day 9 ends with a transfer back to the hotel and another night in the capital city.

Day 10:

Hanoi City – Mai Chau (B,L,D)

We will depart from Hanoi in the morning for the 3.5-hour trip to Mai Chau, one of Vietnam’s most picturesque destinations surrounded by spectacular karst rock formations and rice paddies.

After having lunch, we will spend the afternoon exploring the idyllic natural surroundings and will also pay a visit to the extraordinary Mo Luong (Soldier) Cave.

In the evening you’ll have the chance to enjoy a traditional Thai music and dance performance from a local Thai ethnic group that has inhabited the area for centuries (much of their lifestyle and traditions have remained unchanged over the centuries).

We will stay overnight in a traditional Thai stilt-house, where you can learn about their fascinating culture firsthand.

Day 11:

Mai Chau – Hanoi (B,L)

After breakfast at the Homestay, you will start the morning with a light trek (2- 4 hours) through some other villages in the Mai Chau Valley. After lunch in Mai Chai, we will begin the journey back to Hanoi. While driving back to the capital city, be sure to have your camera ready, as the views atop the Mai Chau Valley are absolutely superb!

We will reach Hanoi late in the afternoon and spent the night in the city.

Day 12:

Hanoi City – Ha Long Bay (B,L,D)

Day 12 starts around 8:00-8:30 AM with a hotel pickup and shuttle bus out to Halong Bay. Upon arriving at the port, the Ha Long Cruise boat crew will bring you aboard, where you can enjoy a welcome drink and check in to your assigned cabin. A seafood lunch will be served soon after, and as your boat launches out into the mystical bay, you’ll immediately see many of the numerous attractions. A quiet cruise carries you along the amazing karsts, all boasting different, unique formations. From the Mat Qui (Monster’s face), But Moc & Cap De islets, through the Trong (Drum), Luon and Trinh Nu caves, out into the remarkable Floating Fishing Village- you will be mesmerized and captivated by Halong’s timeless beauty.

As for personal time, there will be plenty of opportunities for swimming, sunbathing and photography all throughout the day. Top off the day with an unforgettable sunset dinner and relax under the starlit sky before retiring to the comfort of your cabin.

Day 13:

Ha Long Bay – Hanoi City (B,L)

Early risers can enjoy a morning view of the Bay’s iconic landscapes while waiting for breakfast. After eating, pass the morning hours on the boat’s upper deck, where you can capture breathtaking, panoramic shots of the rocky islets rising up from the bay’s crystal-clear waters. With no towns, roads or traffic nearby, the silence is absolutely serene.

Before heading back to town, explore one more “Amazing” (Sung Sot) cave, swim and relax at the Titop Beach and soak up some top-deck rays. Lunch is served while you make your way to port, and you’ll arrive at the harbour by 12:00 Noon.

Your shuttle bus to Hanoi will be waiting, and you’ll arrive back at the hotel around 4.30PM. You will have the afternoon and evening to yourself, where you can relax, eat out or explore Hanoi’s bustling, captivating streets.

Day 14:

Hanoi Departure (B)

After breakfast, you will have the chance to explore Hanoi one last time (leaving at least 2 hours before your flight’s departure). Our driver will bring you to Noi Bai International Airport, and your tour is complete!!

After breakfast in Hoi An, you will pay a visit to the My Son Sanctuary: a UNESCO World Heritage site located 40 km southwest of Hoi An Situated amidst a lush, green valley, My Son was once the capital and religious centre of the Cham peoples. 7-13th century red brick temples, towering monuments and ancient sanctuaries fill this historic site, which is viewed alongside Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, Thailand’s Ayutthaya, Indonesia’s Borobudur and Myanmar’s Bagan; simply one of Vietnam’s must visit destinations!

You will return to Hoi An in the afternoon, where you will have the opportunity to tour the area’s iconic Ancient Town. The visit will include the Japanese covered bridge, Chinese Assembly Halls, and some typical 18th century Vietnamese merchant houses. Top off the day with some shopping or just relax along the banks of Hoi An’s Thu Bon River.

Hoi An – Afternoon transfer to Hue City (B)

You are free to relax on the beaches or shop in town during the final morning in Hoi An. In the afternoon, we will depart for Hue City. Along the drive, you will visit the Marble Mountains, which are a collection of five rock outcrops that jut out along the coastal road.

Each mountain is said to represent a natural element and is named accordingly – Wood, Fire, Gold, Earth and Water. Water is the largest mountain, filled with caves and grottos open to visitors.

Further along you will experience one of the country’s most beautiful strips of highway, the Hai Van Pass, with spectacular views of Da Nang, the East Sea and Lang Co’s virgin beaches – some of the best in Vietnam. Upon arrival in Hue City you check-in to the hotel and relax for the rest of the day.

You will start your tour of this former Imperial Capital by taking a boat trip down the beautiful Perfume River. The Imperial Captial was ruled by the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802-1945. Here you will encounter the city’s best-known religious site, the Thien Mu Pagoda.

After soaking in the scenery and attractions, you will have a local lunch at one of our favourite restaurants in Hue.

The afternoon will be spent exploring the elaborate mausoleums and monuments of emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh.

Before heading back to your hotel, you will have the chance to stroll around Ding Ba Market, to shop for some great local souvenirs.

The tour will include all the main attractions of Hoi An – from the famous Japanese Covered Bridge, Ceramic/Trade Museum, the 200-year-old Tam Ky House to the Chua Ong Pagoda, Thu Bon riverside and the vibrant, outdoor Hoi An Market.

With so many attractions in this favourite Vietnam destination, you won’t have to look too far to keep busy!

Hoi An free day – Late afternoon flight back to Hanoi (B)

You are free to explore Hoi An one final time until your airport transfer to Da Nang’s airport in the late afternoon.

You will take an early evening flight back to Hanoi City and arrive in the capital city where you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3:

Hoa Lu – Tam Coc (B,L)

We begin our day with an 8:30 AM hotel pickup and departure for Hoa Lu and Tam Coc. These famous sites are located within the Ninh Binh Province about 95 km south of Hanoi. Tam Coc is a picturesque destination, known locally as “Halong Bay on the rice fields.” Upon arriving, we will ride a traditional “sampan” through a karst landscape to reach the Tam Coc grottos. A sampan rower will navigate the boat through shallow rice paddies, bringing us to three splendid, long grottos, followed by a visit to Thai Vy: a unique, 13th-century temple.

Our next stop on the journey will be Hoa Lu, the capital of the Dinh and early Le dynasties in Vietnam (from the 10th-11th century). The sanctuaries found here were built in the 17th century and are filled with stone pedestals of royal thrones, bronze bells and statues of the late emperors.

We will return back to the hotel that evening and overnight in Hanoi.

Day 4:

Hanoi Ciy – Ha Long Bay (B,L,D)

Day 4 starts around 8:00-8:30 AM with a hotel pickup and shuttle bus out to Halong Bay.

Upon arriving at the port, the Ha Long Cruise boat crew will bring you aboard, where you can enjoy a welcome drink and check in to your assigned cabin. A seafood lunch will be served soon after, and as your boat launches out into the mystical bay, you’ll immediately see many of the numerous attractions. A quiet cruise carries you along the amazing karsts, all boasting different, unique formations. From the Mat Qui (Monster’s face), But Moc & Cap De islets, through the Trong (Drum), Luon and Trinh Nu caves, out into the remarkable Floating Fishing Village – you will be mesmerized and captivated by Halong’s timeless beauty. As for personal time, there will be plenty of opportunities for swimming, sun bathing and photography all throughout the day.

Top off the day with an unforgettable sunset dinner and relax under the starlit sky before retiring to the comfort of your cabin.

Day 5:

Hoa Lu – Tam Coc (B,L)

We will return back to the hotel that evening and overnight in Hanoi.

Day 6:

Hue City Tour (B,L)

You will start your tour of this former Imperial Capital (ruled by the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802-1945), by taking a boat trip down the beautiful Perfume River. Here you will encounter the city’s best-known religious site, the Thien Mu Pagoda. After soaking in the scenery and attractions, you will get to try a local lunch at one of our favourite restaurant in Hue.

The afternoon will be spent exploring the elaborate mausoleums and monuments of emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh.

Before heading back to your hotel, you will have the chance to stroll around Ding Ba Market alongside your guide to shop for some great local souvenirs.

Day 7:

Hue City – Transfer to Hoi An & Hoi An Tour (B,L)

After having breakfast at the hotel, you will leave Hue for the ancient town of Hoi An.

Along the coastal road to Hoi An, you will experience one of the country’s most beautiful strips of highway, filled with spectacular views of Da Nang, the East Sea and Lang Co’s virgin beaches – some of the best in Vietnam.

Upon arrival in Hoi An, you will have a chance to explore some of the area’s most famous sites, including the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge, Pottery & Trade Museum, 200-year old Tam Ky House, the Chua Ong Pagoda and the vibrant Hoi An Market. You are free to explore the ancient town of Hoi An one final time, until our driver transfers you to the airport for the quick flight south to Ho Chi Minh City.

Upon arrival, a staff member will pick you up, transfer and check you in to your hotel. The rest of the day can be spent at your leisure.

Day 10:

Cu Chi Tunnel – Ho Chi Minh City Tour (B,L)

After having breakfast, we will begin the tour by visiting the famous Cu Chi Tunnels. Here you will have the chance to experience what life was like for guerilla soldiers living and fighting underground during the war. Crawling through a 50-100 metre portion of over 200 kilometres of tunnel systems is truly an unforgettable experience.

On the ride back to Ho Chi Minh City, we will visit local rice paper workshops with beautiful rice paddy fields illustrating the way.

After returning for lunch, we will begin our Ho Chi Minh City Tour. Starting off at the Reunification Palace, visitors can explore one of the most historically important buildings in the entire city. We will then pay a visit to the poignant War Remnants Museum (formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes), a moving display speaking out on the futility of war. Nearby are some excellent examples of French Colonial architecture (Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office), and we’ll wrap up the day touring the iconic Ben Thanh Market. After observing this vibrant commercial centre and exploring some of its famous street life, we will return back to the hotel.

Day 11:

Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be – Vinh Long – Can Tho (B,L)

Day 11 begins our exploration of the Mekong Delta region: a major rice-producing area of Vietnam.

Considered to be one of the world’s most fascinating rivers, the Mekong splits into nine major arteries, creating a vast network of rivers and waterways that fuel the life force of southwestern Vietnam. Between the thousands of ships that cruise through the waters and the everyday, local life thriving along the Mekong’s banks, the Delta region will be one of the most unique and memorable destinations on your Vietnam Tour.

Day 12:

Can Tho (Mekong Delta) – Ho Chi Minh City (B, L)

After having breakfast at the hotel we will start the morning by cruising along the Mekong’s small, picturesque tributaries by rowboat. We will see the Cai Rang Market (the biggest market in Can Tho), soak up the beautiful scenery and witness the daily activities of the locals who live amongst the Mekong’s canals.

After that, we will visit a local rice-husking mill, a rice noodle shop and sample some local tropical fruits.

In the afternoon we will drive back to Ho Chi Minh City where you will spend the night.

The Mekong Delta (Đồng bằng Sông Cửu Long, which literally translates to Nine Dragon river delta), is the region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea.

You leave Ho Chi Minh City heading south to the Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s largest rice bowl region. Day 1:

Around 8:00AM, we will head out of Ho Chi Minh City for the roads leading south to the Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s largest rice bowl region. Upon arrival in My Tho, you will embark on a boat cruise navigating around the small, intricate canals of the delta region: a great way to observe the local lifestyles close-up and the numerous islands dotting the area.

During this exciting excursion, you will pass the Mekong’s endless lush green vegetation, ultimately arriving at the famous Unicorn Island. Here you will have the opportunity to stroll around an orchard, taste many seasonal fruits and enjoy some traditional Vietnamese music.

Itinerary

Overview:

Welcome to Vietnam. From Hanoi Train Station we will depart for an overnight trip to Lao Cai (Sapa). from Lao Chai village you will trek downhill through the Muong Hoa Valley, passing through rice paddies and small hamlets.

The following morning you will continue the trek towards the Red Dao people’s Giang Ta Chai Village home to see a beautiful waterfall. Ending at Supan village where you will meet the transfer back to Sapa.

The next day you leave early for the Coc Ly market. After leaving the market, you will board a boat along the Chay River where colossal rock mountains and breathtaking waterfalls abound to lift your spirits. At the end of the day you will take a car back to the Lao Cai Station and board the night train back to Hanoi City.

The tour will finish with your arrival into Hanoi’s Train Station where our private car will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel.

Day 1:

Sapa – Trek to visit Lào Cai – Ta van (B,L,D)

You will arrive at Lào Cai station around 5:30AM, where a Vietnam To Travel affiliate will pick you up and transfer you to Sapa. (Before the trip starts you will have breakfast at a local restaurant.) From Sapa we will drive to the Lào Cai village and start trekking downhill through the Muong Hoa Valley. Passing through rice paddies and small hamlets, you will learn all about the life of hill tribes in the area and even have a chance to speak with some locals.

We will have a picnic lunch during the trek with a local family, and after lunch will continue trekking through villages and rice terraced fields to Ta Van Village Settled by the Dzay ethnic peoples. This area is known to be the most beautiful village in the entire area. We will have dinner and spend the night at a local family’s home in the Ta Van Village.

Day 2:

Giang Ta Chai – Supan – Sapa (B,L)

After having breakfast at the homestay, you will continue the trek onwards towards the Red Dao people’s Giang Ta Chai Village home to a beautiful waterfall. The Red Dao women are known for their colourful red embroideries and coins on their clothing, as well as their brightly coloured red head scarves. Observing a Red Dao legend, some of these women have even shaved off their eyebrows. You will continue along from Giang Ta Chai through small paths in the rice fields, crossing a picturesque suspended bridge over the Muong Hoa River, and up to the Supan village where you will meet the transfer back to Sapa. (There will be a picnic lunch along the way with a local family.) On the road back to Sapa, you will also have the opportunity to visit the ancient stone circle. In Sapa you will check in to your hotel and spend the evening in Sapa.

Day 3:

Coc Ly Market – Chay River – Night train back to Hanoi (B,L)

We will leave Sapa early (around 7:00 AM) for the Coc Ly market. During the visit to Coc Ly, we will meet and learn about the peaceful lives of 6 different minority peoples (Flower H’mong, Black Dzao, Tay, Dzay, Hanhi and Nung). The Coc Ly market is where all the minority groups meet to share news, joys & sorrows after important harvests. After leaving the market, we will board a boat along the Chay River where colossal rock mountains and breathtaking waterfalls lift our spirits (yet make us feel extremely small!). From the boat we will visit the “Fairy Cave” (located deep in the rocks), as well as the Trung Do Village of the Tay Minority peoples, located just nearby the river. We will take a car back to the Lao Cai Station and board the overnight train back to Hanoi City.

Day 4:

Hanoi Arrival

The tour will finish with an arrival into Hanoi’s Train Station around 5:30 AM, where our private car will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel (booked separately, on your own).
